Life feels so good!

Protein is important for growth in children, teens, pregnant women and of course men too. Every cell in the human body contains protein. In fact, you need proteins to reapir cells and make new ones. Being anemic, it was important for me to realize this as well.

One of the things the doctor explained to me after my second blood transfusion was that my cells were mishaped and my condition was likely the reason I wanted a juicy steak every time my iron was low. However, we all know steak is now the best option. While we were in Hawaii, the retreat we attended served black beans in the morning in order to provide complete proteins. We brought the tactic back to the mainland with us and I will now be incorporating this as well. I know, I know. It is nothing like having a nice peice of sausage or bacon but change is a process. As I look back at the mornings I have over indulged, surely I can commit to myself to swap it out every now and then until every now and again becomes the norm.

So while it is not ideal for everyone, if you would like to take this journey with me, try it out some time. I would suggests so heart healthy beans with whole grain oat and perhaps a little fruit in there for a nice morning pick me up!
