Ginger root-the tangy spicy anti-aging, aphrodisiacal pucker-upper! We encourage you to toss it in a salad, brew it in your tea, make up a snack experimenting or certainly there are some impressive recipes you can find out there. Perhaps, we will also post some at a later time but if you gain nothing more than this, include it in your regimen!

Botanical: Zingiber officinale

Chinese pin- ying: sheng jiang

Ginger root can be grown indoors because it doesn’t require much sunlight or maintenance. It takes less than a year to mature and is a perennial that originated in South Asia but can thrive in temperatures without frost. You can soak, grow, harvest, grow, harvest, grow…you get the point! It is infinite greatness.

My introduction was via a beverage but I’ve learned it could be pickled, candied, turned into a wine, ground and turned into a seasoning. It could be a great asset to herbal remedies and some even include it as part of many other endeavors as well! One of the most interesting facts was that one of the biological effects is that it stimulates the production of saliva and stimulates the digestive system. It also helps to calm an upset/nauseous stomach and ease motion sickness. Consult your health practitioner and use in moderation if you are pregnant. It is also an anti-inflammatory that has been known to help people that have arthritis and chronic pain.

All the more interesting, it is considered an aphrodisiac in a Karma Sutra legend. Ginger is known to containing Gingerol (a chemical that is related to capsaicin), that makes it a warming herb. The heat increases sexual stimulation in the brain, in so many words causing sexual arousal and increasing blood flow to the genitals and dilating blood vessels.

Although masculine in nature, its’ benefits prove useful to both men and women, aiding in raising your inner power and bringing good luck and success. So whether it’s health, wealth, or extra mojo-grow you some. If you have ginger concoctions that you are in love with, share some of your favorites with us. We’d love to hear what is working for you!
